The L-3 Crestview Aerospace (L-3 CA) airframe assembly group builds major and minor aircraft structures for defense and commercial aircraft industries. Major assembly manufacturing ranges from tail booms and major cargo airframe sections to complete cabins. Our diverse subassemblies comprehensively support both customer and internal production lines. Our dedicated workforce has an objectively focused working relationship with our customers and is well trained in the multitude of specifications prescribed by our customers.
L-3 CA’s state-of-the-art aerostructures detail manufacturing group produces customer components from raw stock through specified manufacturing processes, supplying both internal and external customers. Detail parts capabilities include sheet metal and extrusion cutting, forming, welding, machining, processing, and painting and ballistic foam. We produce detail parts and assemblies for our customers from various sources of engineering ranging from customer-provided sample parts, legacy drawings, and mylars/loft line drawings to 2-D engineering drawings and 3-D electronic models.
L-3 CA is a vertically integrated facility. Our detail parts fabrication line directly supports our airframe assembly and modification/modernization operations. This minimizes lead time and maximizes flexibility to our customers’ ongoing developments and evolving requirements. The majority of major assembly programs are directly supported by in-house detail parts fabrication, which minimizes sub-tier supplier lead-time concerns and maximizes flexibility. Assembly personnel interact directly with detail parts fabrication to ensure the highest level of integration.
Manufacturing and Assembly Support
L-3 CA’s world-class tool design center takes existing customer requirements and finds creative ways to improve build methodology and ergonomics, improving quality, cost, and customer-driven delivery schedules. The design office is closely aligned with the tool fabrication shop and manufacturing work centers maximizing design effectiveness.
Our engineers routinely use computer-aided design (CAD) engineering systems to develop tool sets (including CNC programs), shop-aids, and inspection media incorporating all design requirements of the customer’s Model-Based Definition (MBD) engineering.
L-3 CA is proven to be on the leading edge of process improvement within the aerospace manufacturing industry and we have developed innovative manufacturing and assembly techniques and methods to facilitate the ease of installation and assembly during the production process. Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement are employed throughout the facility to improve quality and customer satisfaction.
